Doesn't get any worse than this. Day 1 - We arrive. We're late. We unpack and fool ourselves into thinking that this may be an educational/fun time. Wrong. Dead wrong. They tell us to head over the auditorium because everyone else is there watching We Were Soldiers. I hate this movie, not only that, but they showed it last time I came here, as well. After about an hour and half this god-awful movie is finally over. They do a little review about the leadership traits portrayed from the people in the film. If we're going to watch a war movie, why not Behind Enemy Lines? Much better movie. Enough of the bullshit, time to leave. This is where I get my first taste of how much the Army sucks at drill. We have some Platoon Leaders that couldn't do drill at all. I can't describe the suckiness, you'd just have to be there. Day 2 - Wake up at 5:15 to be out and ready for morning PT by 5:45. Morning PT is a bad idea, especially if you have heartburn problems. Yup, there I was at about 6:30 in the morning puking up acid. Acid is white/transparent. Neat stuff. I don't remember a lot after that. We went back to the barracks and showered then went for morning chow. Good food, at least. Then we went rapelling. Yay. Thirty-two and half foot wall. That's it. The wall at leadership was sixty. Then afternoon chow. Then a class on... something. Then Pine Valley where I climbed the rock wall, no help from Annalee, and then we came back and had evening chow. Kinda barebone, huh? Day 3 - No PT today! Good stuff. Morning chow and we're off to Pine Valley. If there was ever an okay part of the trip, this wasn't it. There wasn't an okay part, but this was more tolerable. Brain teasers, challenges; I even pissed off some sergeant because I took my BDU blouse off. For both lunch and evening chow we had MREs. MREs suck. MREs especially suck when they don't come with the little water activated heaters. Then we came back to the college. We did drill for an hour. Everyone but the Navy and Marine Corps must completely suck at drill. At least I got to see Richard drill for a little while. Next was a decent time. I got to work on a computer to make a powerpoint presentation. I felt like I was at home. If you wanna check out the Presentation, you can download it here. We had two and half hours to complete it. I personally think we did the best job, but that's just me. Final Day - Knowing that within the next few hours you will be liberated from your concentration camp is a feeling like no other. We packed up, threw our junk in the back of the van, and went out to morning chow. After that, we had about half an hour to pack, so I got to relax for a bit. After that we went to this new auditorium and listened to the recruiter blab on about college. Then we heard what we thought we'd never hear: "Good bye." It was great. We ran over to the BBQ, grabbed a couple of cheeseburgers, some water and a whole shitload of cookies and tore outta that place like bats flying out of hell. It was great. Suck, suck, suck... |
